The Ugliest Windshields Ever
Ever since I met Don, I realized that all windshield replacements aren't created equal ... and
that there are some pretty ugly windshields out there. Here is the "hall of shame" I have collected:
(Dirty Bird)
Don says: Two problems here: This molding wasn't wrapped all the way around the edge of the
glass before it was installed. And then, the installer didn't bother to clean up all the
urethane on the glass and the car. Looks terrible! Cost to trade this car in like this:
$200.
(Wind Flapper)
Don says: You'll hear this one before you'll see it. Flap. Flap. Flap. It sounds
like you left one of your children on the roof of the van. The problem: Not enough adhesive
to hold the molding down - or a cheap molding that split.
(The Amazing Shrinking Molding)
Don says: This windshield was replaced, and the technician used the
old molding. When the molding was removed from the original windshield, it shrunk three
inches. This is quite common. For five more bucks of cost, a concientious installer
would have put a new rubber molding on - and saved this customer headaches later.
